An exclusive animal model of hypoxic preconditioning is introduced. Upregulation of SOD, GSHPx and adenosine and downregulation of glutamate, phospholipids, free fatty acids, and LPO, are demonstrated in the brain during repetitive exposure of animals to hypoxia. The protective effects of these changes against hypoxia-induced damage and the damage induced at the cellular and molecular levels by ischemia are also presented. Researchers and clinicians who are working in the fields related to neuroscience, the respiratory system, physiology, and molecular biology will be interested in the publication since a novel strategy for fighting against hypoxia/ischemia is shown in it and a new insight into the mechanism underlying the preconditioning is expected to be explored at the molecular level.
