cheapie pie

A friend highly recommended this biography. I found it hard to put down. Not only does the author provide a compelling story of Martin's holiness, but she situates the saint in the racial and class context of Lima, Peru during his lifetime. Especially interesting was her explanation of his medical miracles and other signs of his holiness that led to his eventual canonization by the Vatican. This book is aimed at readers expecting a well researched biography that meets the highest standards of historical research and writing. This is not intended for the casual reader.

Jose Antonio Farias

The only serious source that I have found about this peruvian saint.

Nado Frog

A wonderful and detailed look into an inspiring historic figure. Not only does Prof Cussen accurately describe every element of Colonial Lima Peru, but she has painstakingly gathered information from archives in Rome, Lima and elsewhere that creates the very fabric of Martin de Porres existence. The book reads easily as independent chapters on his family, the miracles associated with him and the artwork created after his death that has defined St. Martin for generations of Catholics and historians.
