The large scale map of the theatre of war in Bulgaria is based upon the Austrian survey of 1881 of the Balkan States. This is the best map yet published. The spelling of the names has been brought into conformity with this map, with the exception of one or two names which appear also on Maps I and II. The varieties of spelling of the names in the various books and maps dealing with the campaign is very great, owing to the number of languages concerned. While I hope I have avoided any chance of confusion, I must ask my readers' indulgence if I have not attained complete uniformity.
