This presentation uses anatomically precise, computer-generated reconstructed images of the human body for three-dimensional presentation of acupuncture points and channels. The CD component is fully interactive and allows the user to see through tissue layers, remove tissue layers, and rotate structures so that specific acupuncture points can be v

Advances in Endogenous and Exogenous Opioids contains the proceedings of the International Narcotic Research Conference (Satellite Symposium of the 8th International Congress of Pharmacology) held in Kyoto, Japan on July 26-30, 1981. The conference provided a forum for discussing advances that have been made in the understanding of endogenous and exogenous opioids and tackled a wide array of topics ranging from novel opiate binding sites selective for benzomorphan drugs to the purification of opioid receptors and sequellae of receptor binding.Comprised of 156 chapters, this book begins with an analysis of the interaction of opioid peptides and alkaloid opiates with mu-, delta-, and kappa-binding sites. The reader is then systematically introduced to biochemical evidence for kappa and sigma opiate receptors; the action of morphine and oxymorphone as partial agonists on the field-stimulated rat vas deferens; mechanisms of supersensitivity in the enkephalinergic system; and properties of the solubilized opiate receptor from human placenta. Subsequent chapters explore the biosynthesis of opioid peptides as well as their localization, release, and degradation; physiological and pharmacological actions of opioids; and the use of analgesia in acupuncture. Results of behavioral and clinical studies of endogenous and exogenous opioids are also presented, and the structure-activity relationships of opioids are examined. This monograph will be of interest to students, practitioners, and researchers in the fields of psychiatry and pharmacology.

This comprehensive text provides a systematic explanation of major conditions such as cancer, coronary heart disease, stroke and hypertension. It starts with a definition and then examines the epidemiology, aetiology and pathophsyiology of the disorder as well as clinical signs, symptoms and treatments. Interventions to be made at various levels are explored, and clinical practice points are offered. This is essential reading for students and health professionals wishing to further their understanding of common disorders and to improve their delivery of care.

麻醉学和围手术期医学中的无创机械通气

There is an important increase in the use of devices that allow adequate control of patients who are treated in resuscitation units after surgical procedures. In this book a description is made. We carried out a description and analysis of the main indications for use in different scenarios. This includes an analysis of the rationale for the use of noninvasive ventilation in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine, noninvasive mechanical ventilation and work of breathing pattern using different interfaces, and perioperative medicine. We include equipment and interface analysis and application of lung ultrasound in noninvasive ventilation. Along these lines, we clarify the role of noninvasive ventilation in anesthesiology and perioperative noninvasive ventilation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), preoxygenation in cardiac and liver transplants and anesthesiology procedures (non-intubated video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery). Finally, we conclude this book with key recommendations about noninvasive ventilation in the post-anesthesia care unit of a health care organization. We believe that this book consolidates a scientific reference for the adequate indication of noninvasive ventilation in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine.

In noninvasive mechanical ventilation, the mask interface selection and design are the first physical contact with the patient and the more relevant determinant in their tolerance and response. There are a great number of designs and studies that focus on this topic. However, there is no practical book that incorporates deep analysis, rational physical determinants and patients’ responses. This book aims to offer comprehensive expert review chapters on the most significant recent developments in the field of mask interfaces for noninvasive mechanical ventilation, detailing the technology, practices and clinical implications in pulmonary and critical care by providing clear insights and interpretations. Chapters are intended to serve as a reference to those involved in technology, mask selection and patient interaction to properly deliver noninvasive ventilation (incorporating comfort, gas exchange, work of breathing, lung physiology, and interactions of positive pressure) in treatment of acute and chronic respiratory disorders. This aims to offer physicians and researchers a key cornerstone book to understand the basic technology of noninvasive ventilation interfaces and noninvasive ventilation response. The book describes how mask interface technology influences noninvasive ventilation in four main aspects: 1) patient response (comfort, adaptation, noninvasive ventilation failure); 2) methodology (ventilatory modes, mechanical ventilators as a scientific reference for researchers, respiratory technicians and physicians); 3) New mask interface technology and new indications of noninvasive ventilation; and 4) Summary of key practical elements about mask interfaces to understand indications of noninvasive ventilation.

伪科学和过度医疗化:一个反对倦怠的论点

This book provides a detailed critical analysis of burnout, a concept first illuminated by Herbert Freudenberger. By citing arguments that show the inconsistencies and dangers of a general diagnosis, the book shows the effects this may have on the medical sector. With 140 symptoms and the absence of a negative diagnosis, this book argues that burnout represents the widest medicalization of human life that we know of. Through analysis of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) questionnaire and the work of Schaufeli, in addition to other authors, the author creates a detailed case against the generalization of burnout; this book will be of interest to students or academics within the medical field, along with researchers into the human psyche.

Writing interventional pain procedures can sometimes be difficult for beginner students in the field of pain medicine. This book targets mainly residents and interventional pain medicine fellows who are just starting their training, and will serve to make it easier for practitioners to quickly write notes. The book argues that one of the best ways of reviewing and preparing for a procedure is to read the procedure notes and to visualize how the procedure is done.
