Through a careful survey of several聽significant Platonic texts, mainly聽focussing on the nature of knowledge,聽Essays on Plato Epistemology聽offers聽the reader a fresh and promising聽approach to Plato philosophy as a聽whole. From the very earliest reception聽of Plato philosophy, there has been聽a conflict between a dogmatic and a聽sceptical interpretation of his work and聽thought. Moreover, the two sides are聽often associated, respectively, with a聽metaphysical and an anti-metaphysical聽approach. This book, continuing a line聽of thought that is nowadays strongly聽present in the secondary literature, maintains聽that a third way of thinking is required.聽Against the widespread view that an聽anti-dogmatic philosophy must go聽together with an anti-metaphysical stance, Trabattoni shows that for Plato,聽on the contrary, a sober and reasonable聽assessment of both the powers and limits of human reason relies on a proper聽metaphysical outlook.
