The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) provides the international sports community with an organisation specialised in the settlement of sports-related disputes. Its decisions are equivalent to judgments passed by state courts. Since its inception in 1984, it has time and time again earned the recognition and respect of all stakeholders in the legal and sporting world. A first digest of CAS awards was published in 1998. This compilation, which won the René Cassin Price awarded by the Académie Fran?aise des Sciences Morales et Politiques, prepared the ground for a specialized case law, a real lex sportiva in development. A second digest was published in 2002.The present digest is a compilation of all major decisions issued by CAS between 2001 and 2003, including those issued during the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. Many decisions are presented in both English and French. It contains also all essential texts regarding the organisation and the activity of CAS. The earlier volumes of the Digest have found a wide readership. This update is sure to continue that interest, especially with its detailed references, invaluable to legal practitioners, to sports law and arbitration. Sports organisation officials also will discover here an incomparable source of legal information.
