A Karger 'Publishing Highlights 1890–2015' title Responsible for epidemics such as Saint Antony's fire through the ages, used by midwives to hasten labor and induce abortion, and containing the alkaloids from which the hallucinogen LSD was first synthesized, the ergot has many fascinating sides, all presented in this 'excellent book' (JAMA 1970), together with the chemistry, biosynthesis, physiology, pharmacology and clinical uses of the fungus, in a simple enjoyable manner as the author intended.
