内容简介

This special topic issue associates unique features of animal minds, i.e. aspects of cognition, emotion and consciousness, with differences in complexity of neural systems and considers the evolutionary processes producing such relationships. The additional aim of the publication is to go beyond cognition, to encompass other aspects of consciousness, and to enhance consideration of brain diversity. The topics are including: Behavioral correlates of mushroom body elaboration in insects; central nervous pathways and adaptive behavior in octopuses and other cephalopods; the pallium and mind/behavior relationships in teleost fishes; variation in reptilian brains and cognition; bird brains and tool use; and the evolution of large brain size in mammals. Providing new perspectives in the understanding of animal minds and brain complexity, this publication will be of special interest for neuroscientists, comparative psychologists, animal behaviorists, zoologists, cognitive scientists and everybody interested in brain-behavior mechanisms and models.
