In the elderly delirium is a very common phenomenon. It complicates both psychiatric and somatic disorders and creates problems in the care of elderly patients. But, little research has been focused on delirium in the elderly. In this special issue different aspects of delirium in the elderly are discussed by leading scientists in the field. The scope of topics includes epidemiological and pathogenetic aspects, as well as social and environmental contributants. Also diagnostic and treatment problems in clinical practice and care of delirious patients are considered. This publication will be of direct interest to all professionals working in geriatrics, geriatric psychiatry, general psychiatry, neurology and all those involved in care for the elderly population.
