These proceedings contain the latest discussions on experimental therapeutics and the regulation of inflammatory cell activation. The presentations focus on new concepts and methodologies of immune system modulation for induction of tolerance to allergens and for antagonizing the interaction of IgE with its high affinity receptor. Novel work is presented regarding the production of regulatory cytokines by the various cells that participate in allergic disease and the regulation of their activation and release. Leading investigators discuss the genetic elements underlying allergic disease and environmental factors that influence the development of allergy. Exiting data regarding the interaction of the nervous and the immune systems and the role of neutrophins, such as nerve growth factor, are presented. The reader is provided with a broad view of the state-of-the-art basic and clinical research in the field of allergy. This publication would be of great interest to academic allergists, allergists in training, practitioners as well as to academic pulmonologists, otolaryngologists and dermatologists as its contents has direct implications on our understanding and on the future management of asthma, rhinosinusitis and atopic dermatitis.
