This special issue of 'Cytogenetics and Cell Genetics' is dedicated to Dr. Susumu Ohno on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Edited by Drs. Michael Schmid (Würzburg) and Harold P. Klinger (New York) with an introductory laudatio by Dr. Ulrich Wolf (Freiburg), it contains 39 papers by friends and associates of Dr. Ohno from 15 countries and all five continents. Many of these are prominent researchers in genetics.
