The study investigates Eulenspiegel, the European bestseller of the Early Modern Age. The history of its dissemination in England shows how strongly book printing there in the 16th century was predominated by German printers and sellers and demonstrates how a ‛German´ figure was received in England. The study presents that period's fascination with Eulenspiegel using a number of examples of translations showing their interconnection with the English version.
