The German Pronunciation Dictionary is the new authoritative reference work for German Standard Pronunciation. It provides reliable information regarding the standard forms used by most native speakers of German today. The inventory comprises some 150,000 headwords and is complemented by numerous informative text boxes explaining underlying phonetic rules and characteristics of German pronunciation; the work is prefaced by an introduction giving detailed accounts of the vocabulary covered, of phonetic fundamentals and rules of pronunciation, and of stylistic phonetic variation. In addition, the hardcover version is accompanied by an audio CD with spoken examples of the phenomena described.
