Strategic Human Resource Management focuses on the different aspects of human resource management such as recruitment, hiring, compensation, and training of employees - but it does all of this with a focus on aligning with the organization’s goals. As organizations continue to face mounting competitive pressures, they seek to do more with less and do it with better quality. As goals for sales volume, profits, innovation, and quality are raised, employment growth is often tightly controlled and in many cases, substantial cuts in employment have been made. To accomplish more with fewer employees calls for effective management of human resources. The strategic nature of HR decision making extends far beyond the doors of the HR department. The purpose of this book is thus to help those already making HR decisions do so in a way that takes advantage of what we have learned from research in SHRM.
