This book examines the national security and preparedness issues, developments and analyses facing the U.S. today. Topics discussed include the nation's air, land, and marine transportation systems that are designed for accessibility and efficiency and which in turn make them vulnerable to terrorist attack; the Transportation Security Admiministration's (TSA) Explosives Detection Canine Program; the Project Bioshield Act and its development, procurement, and use of medical countermeasures against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) terrorism agents; efforts to address the medical needs of children in a CBRN incident; and additional actions needed to improve security of radiological sources at U.S. medical facilities.
