Materials science encompasses four classes of materials, the study of each of which may be considered a separate field: metals, ceramics, polymers and composites. This volume gathers important research from around the globe in this dynamic field including research on the status and perspectives of organic photovoltaic cells; room temperature silicon carbide thin-film formation; microcapsule based self-healing thermosetting materials for structural applications; donor-accepted interface and conversion efficiency; silicon carbide as a catalytic support for energy and environmental applications; transmission electron microscopy application on y-Al2O3 single crystal formation during NiAl oxidation and applied to fuel cell materials characterization; low pressure deposition techniques of silicon carbide thin films; automated crystal orientation mapping in a transmission electron microscope in electrodeposited nanocrystalline nickel; pharmaceutical application of positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy; and fabrication and characterization of C60-based solar cells with phthalocyanine, poly-vinylcarbazole and germanium bromide.
