Swallowing difficulties or dysphagia, can occur with numerous conditions, some of which are permanent, some reversible, and some progressive. The underlying etiology can be neurological, muscular, or mechanical/obstructive. The authors of this book present topical research in the study of the risk factors, diagnosis and treatment of dysphagia. Topics discussed include the etiology and prognosis associated with dysphagia; prevention of radiation-induced dysphagia; dysphagia in the myopathies; swallow screening as an essential component of acute stroke management and the perioperative risk factors for dysphagia.
