This book is a compilation of CRS reports on the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) block grant in the United States. TANF was formed in the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, and it imparts federal grants to all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the territories and American Indian tribes for a variety of benefits, services, and activities to combat the effects of childhood economic disadvantage. Some frequently asked questions regarding TANF are addressed is conjunction with recommendations for the future.
