Like most textbooks, the author duly footnotes any and all references, but he keeps the narrative going smoothly because he sometimes throws in personal comments about what is happening in his personal life at the moment he is writing the chapter and uses everyday examples to illustrate his points. Additionally, Steve Duck includes several "Try This Out" sections in each chapter so the reader can immediately apply the message that is presented. For the student, the author places a heading entitled "Focus Points for Note Taking" in each chapter. Furthermore, he regularly includes a segment urging the reader to keep a diary about certain actions so the reader can verify or discredit the arguments presented by looking at his own actions. This is a well-written book that does a good job of describing human relationships.
