内容简介

Everything human beings do finishes up bad in the end. Everything good human beings ever make is built on something monstrous. Nothing lasts. We certainly won't...'Based on his experience as a teacher, Stephens describes his play as 'The History Boys on crack'. It explores the underlying tensions and potential violence in a group of affluent, articulate seventeen year old students. Contemporary and unnerving, with elements of The Catcher in the Rye, Punk Rock follows the story of seven sixth-formers as they face up to the pressures of teenage life, while preparing for their mock A-level exams and trying to get into Oxbridge. They are a group of educated, intelligent and aspirational young people but step-by-step, the dislocation, disjunction and latent violence simmering under the surface of prosperity is revealed.

A dark play about a group of 8 highschool students who hang together in an upstairs library. The school is a fee-paying grammar school. The play reminds me of Breakfast Club. The conversations are brutal as they bully and posture amongst themselves. I found it difficult to read because the interactions were so painfully real. The ending is abrupt. This play would be interesting for a group of students to perform, however it is not for the feint of heart.

It is a great play for young audiences and has an interactive website to get an in depth look at how to start discussions around the play's themes. The play was paperback but great for a classroom setting. Recommended+

An insight in to the hearts and minds of privately educated youths. I loved how Stephen's developed characters through dualogue and slowly let the plot unfold. I live in Stockport, am a drama teacher, so his work speaks volumes to me .

I have read the play before and it is honestly my favourite piece of literature ever! The postage was fast and it was a good quality print (just like the one if read before) so I can give it nothing but 5 stars!

Maybe avoid purchasing if you have bad memories of High School.

I love this book, I admire the careful writing and Williams arc in particular. His journey, for me, is ideal for monologues as he always has a steady stream of conscious and unconscious thoughts about the events which unfold that an actor can get into.
