内容简介

This book focuses on the plastic property of materials, and the way in which structures made of such material behave under load. It is intended for civil, mechanical, electro-mechanical, marine, and aeronautical engineers for under-graduate or post-graduate courses or research, and professionals in industry. Professor Calladine, from long experience in teaching, research and industry, here delivers a readable and authoritative account of theory and applications. He presents the classical "perfect plasticity material" as a model of irreversible mechanical behaviour, using this perfect plasticity property to analyse a range of continuum structural problems and metal-forming processes relevant to engineering practice.

Ever since my third year in engineering college, i had problems grasping the basic concepts of Plasticity. Despite my best efforts at looking for it on WikiPedia or other reference books I wasn't able to appreciate it. But all that was before I read the aforementioned book by C.R.Calladine. I can comfortably say that this is by far one of the finest books I have read after getting into engineering (after structural analysis by R.C.Hibbeler). It is the perfect book for students / practitioners who have no previous knowledge about Plasticity but, are interested in starting afresh. The author doesn't even mention an equation before getting to the 24th page. It all starts with the fundamental stress-strain diagram and progresses from thereon. I read this book almost every night before off going to sleep. I strongly recommend it for all (to be or present) Structural engineering students. Voila !
