The notes are arranged for the use Of both teacher and pupil; the teacher should examine carefully the explanations of a lesson in the notes, previous to assigning it to the class; the pupil should consult the notes constantly, as all explanations necessary to a thorough understanding Of the lesson ai'e there given. References are made for all the paradigms and rules to four grammars, — Andrews and Stoddard's, Allen and Grenough's, Harkness's (latest edition) and Bartholomew's. There is given, however, for the help Of the teacher in harmonizing the class in the memorizing Of rules, where several grammars are used in the same class, a list Of twenty rules, which the pupils may learn as the constructions are presented in the lessons.
