The remedy for this evil is a phonetic alphabet, that is, one in which each letter has one sound, which it invariably represents. By the Pho netic method of spelling — as has been proved by actual experiments that which is so difficult by the Romanic method, becomes easy and pleasant, and is the work of a few weeks instead of years. With respect to the application of a phonetic alphabet to the English language, Dr. Franklin, than whom it would be difficult to find a more common sense, practical man, has said, sooner or later it must be done.
