Since the Book was sent to Press, Mr. A. H. Inman has pointed out that an error has been made in the Pedigree by confusing Anthony Benson (22) with Captain Anthony Beckwith, and that the son Robert, with whom I have credited Anthony Benson, is really a Beckwith. I remember that the name was a difficult one to decipher, but I acknowledge with gratitude to Mr. Inman that I have deciphered it wrong, and that Anthony Benson must be at once deprived of his rank of Captain and of his only son Robert.Benson (2) was chaplam to the Lady Scrope of Masham, and is mentioned in her will (Testam.Ebor. Surtees Society); another branch migrated to Ribblesdale, and held the grange of Copman-howe (now Capon Hall) between Settle and Malham.
