I am one of those who think the Eastern Shore of Maryland the Garden Spot of the World — have been taught that from the cradle up. Many of the tales told here are some we have heard since childhood, and as this is an inquiring age, in recent years I have looked into them a little to ascertain just how much was fiction and how much was truth. I have concluded that it is difficult to draw a hard and fast line between them with the meagre information at hand, and have therefore let legend and fact go hand in hand with but one object in view, that of pre senting a series, of sketches, founded on fact.
