IN submitting my first book to the public, I re frain from making apologies in its behalf, and shall only briefly allude to my labors, in order to show how strenuously Ihave endeavored to ensure its authenticity. All the Atlantic States have Historical Societies, and books and manuscripts relating to those States have been collected.
