Hogarth to The Balkans (clarendon Press, The chapter called Thy Kingdom is Divided' is in no respect at all an official utterance, and merely represents the indi vidual opinions and surmises of the author. It has, however, the official basis that the Allies have pledged themselves to remove the power of the Turk from Constantinople, and to remove Out Of the power of the Turk the alien peoples who have too long already been subject to his murderous rule. I have, in fact, but attempted to conjecture in what kind of manner that promise will be fulfilled.

Historically interesting as I did not know much about the subject.I am not sure when this book was first published, I assumed some time after the first world war.It is hard to believe that human beings can be so cruel. But I guess history is full of events like this, even in todays news.

Allied propaganda book from 1917 with historical value only from that perspective. Easy read with a good feel for the period's thought process among the non-academic "intellectuals".

This is one of those long-forgotten gems of a book that you come across purely by chance but which contains important historical information that can help you make sense of the modern world. Written in 1918 as non-fiction by the English author EF Benson [who went on to write the Mapp & Lucia series] it records Germany’s attempts to integrate Turkey and the Ottoman Empire into the Kaiserreich before and during the First World War. Had Germany won that conflict, the plan was to use a German controlled Ottoman Empire as a staging post in a takeover of British interests in the Middle East and India and supplant Britain as the foremost global power.Two things stand out here, neither of which I was previously aware of.
