Little Histories of North American Indians is designed to give in plain and simple form a concise and authentic history of the North American Indians by tribes. So far, most of the literature giving relia ble accounts of the life, manners, customs, habits, religion, mythology, arts, and crafts of the various Indian tribes of our country is contained chiefly in government reports and in scientific works which are either not readily accessible to the reading public, or are too scientific and technical to be enjoyable and entertaining to the average general reader. The aim, then, is a popular and reliable little history of our North American Indians which will, in a measure, satisfy the ever increasing desire on the part of Americans for a more intimate knowledge of the first of all Americans. It has not been the intention to present in this little book — the first of the series — any new facts concerning the Navajos, but rather to bring together the facts already known of the tribe.
