内容简介

The teaching of history in Constantinople naturally leads to an interest in the history of Turkey, and also to the recognition that little has been written on that subject except on the side of political relations with Europe. One who desires to present to western readers a brief study of Turkish civilization might reasonably turn to the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, as being typical of the course of Turkish history, and also as exhibiting Turkey at the height of her powers. For the purpose of this dissertation, the study has been confined to the career of Ibrahim Pasha, grand vizir between 1522 and 1536.

Very disappointing. Ibrahim Pasha had such a full and adventurous life, that I would have expected a book full of his exploits.Nothing of the sort, a brief aperçu. A very shallow rendition of a very rich life.Of course being Turkish I have a deep knowledge of the Ottoman History, maybe someone with less knowledge "might" enjoy it.

Michael Kasli. very good read

I LIKED THIS BOOK CUZ HAS GIVEN A GOOD DESCRIPTION OF IBRAHIM PASH, WHAT LEADER HE WAS: AMBASADOR, AND ADVISOR TO SULEYMAN THE MAGNIFICENT EMPEROR OF THE OTTOMAN.THIS IS A GOOD HISTORICAL BOOK THAT EXPLAINS THE CRONOLOGY OF THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE RISE.

in general, American history books barely touch on Turkey, nor Suleiman the Magnificent. yet European history is filled with tales of fear and terror of Turkish conquests that continue to influence European politics even today, witness the reason for the EU's repulsion of Turkey's membership request. this summary of Ibrahim's impact and influence on the Ottoman empire provides a quick introduction to the life of the man who so influenced the direction of Europe.

I'm a middle east scholar and I love getting these books in ebook form. This has the best formatting. I had another version that had the footnotes I needed in the text so you couldn't tell where the book was and which was footnote. But this version is perfect.

Depicts the extent of Ibrahim 's role in the success of Suleiman 's empire and legendary dedication to his Sultan. A proverbial truth that we must never take ourselves for granted. A real tragedy.

Few information, mostly verbatim from third party sources.Scarce analysis by the author himself, even if the characteris a shadowy one, assassinated at an early age. The natureof his relationship with Sukeyman the law-giver remainswholly unexplained.

Excellent narrative,very interesting & enlightening.

I have given two stars because the book was written entirely to justify the abuse of power level against Suleiman. Ibrahim was cast as able, true and loyal subject with no moral blemish apart from being a Christian. Very two dimensional.
