The first three chapters of this book are a kind of general introduction to the main body of the work. The third chapter has been extended by additional matter, in order to afford a broader basis for the subsequent chapters to rest upon. The authorities are given at the bottom of the page, and notes are added: particular notes to certain pages will be found in the Appendix of Notes and some remarks (p. 387) in reference to reading Hebrew without the vowel-points. These are not to be used in reading Hebrew preper names in this work. Corrections and additions will be found in the Errata.
