The first mention of Egypt, in the Bible, occurs in Genesis xii. 10, where Abraham journeys thither to find sustenance for his cattle. The authenticity of this passage has often been questioned,11 and we may begin at this point to mention some of the indirect confirmations of Scripture from the Egyptian monuments.
