内容简介

That there were several such secret agents in the service of the leaders Of the revolution, is a fact that is now well known; a fact to which the author alludes in the first chapter of The Spy, where he says, Many an individual has gone down to the tomb stigmatized as a foe to the rights of his countrymen, while, in secret, he has been the useful agent of the lead ers of the revolution. Each of these individuals might have contributed a tint, a shade, a line, or perhaps a feature, to the character of Harvey Birch; but we think no one can per use the following pages without be ing convinced that Enoch Crosby was the original model from which that character was formed.

Many unknown heroes hide in history. Enoch Crosby was just a very pleasant shoemaker in 1776 CT, when he met a Loyalist Tory on the road. Mr. Crosby seemed to have a friendliness factor through the roof, because everyone he met liked him. And thus did the very patriotic Crosby has accidentally find a new career -- the non-paying job of spy! I loved him so much that I still incorporated the long-vanished Crosby into my own book "1777 - Danbury on Fire!"

So much history over so little a time, the last 237 years has been an awesome ride . But with current administration policies one could wonder if the ride may at last be over and I see no brass ring. An excellent book and a good add on for "The Spy /James Fenimore Cooper and George Washington's Secret Six.
