Providence, according to Mr. Kipling, has been pleased to place upon the white man's shoulders the tremendous burden of regulating the affairs of men of all other colors, who, for the purpose of his argument, are backward and undeveloped — half devil and half child. When one considers that of the sixteen hundred million people living upon this earth, more than twelve hundred million are col ored, this seems a truly staggering burden. But it does not seem to have ocurred to the proponents of this pleasant doctrine that the shoe may be upon the other foot so far as the other twelve hundred million are concerned. It is easy to maintain an ex parte argument, and as long as we do not ask the other side to state their case our own arguments will appear not only convincing but conclusive. But in the court of common sense this method is not generally allowed and a case is not considered closed until both parties have been heard from.

My first order or shipment of this book was completely unacceptable because both copies contained more than a number of page's in them that where completely ineligible. I've since reordered with assurances from Amazon this would not be replicated. So, I'm presently now awaiting the arrival of replacements. This literary work by Hubert Harrison, offers a very intriguing insight and understanding of one America's noted labor and progressive intellectuals. since my last submission, I have since received replacement order 5/21/20. Upon doing so, to my dismay the same issue's persisted as with the first; therefore, unresolved in spite of assurance's to the contrary by Amazon. It appears that either Amazon holds no sway over this particular vendor ability to provide a quality product or, said vendor cares little about quality of product they submit for sale on Amazon's sales and marketing platform? I would strongly recommend not to purchase this book unless customer can be assured with confidence, product will reflect what the customer expects it to be.

This is one of those books that you just HAVE to read. Harrison echoes many of Du Bois arguments in "The Souls of Black Folk" but from an explicitly socialist perspective. Its important to keep his influence alive!! Its a short easy read so why not amirite
