This volume is designed to give a general view of the monu ments of the early Church, comprising in its scope all branches of Christian art and archaeology, and treating each of them as completely as is possible within the limits of a handbook. It is designed also, in behalf of students who may wish to pursue the subject further, to provide a general introduction to the archaeology of the early Christian period. To this end it is hoped that the Bibliography will be found useful.
