During the years that have elapsed since this memorable action, nineteen National conferences of commissioners from different states and territories have been held, there being now forty-eight states and territories including the District of Columbia and the Philippine Islands represented in the con ference. At the nineteenth annual meeting held in Detroit, Michigan, August lgth-23rd, 1909, commissioners from thirty states were present. The five following Acts represent the results of the work of the Conference on the subject of Commercial Law. Each of the Acts has been drafted by experts, carefully consideredin committee and at various sessions of the whole Conference after being printed in tentative form, and sent out for public and private criticism. Each of these Acts has therefore had the most careful scrutiny, and, as a result, it is believed that they represent the actual law upon all of the subjects covered, and where the law of the various states differs, the weight of opinion is expressed in these Acts.
