The consequence has been that one Of the main Objects for which scoring is designed — to show the comparative ability Of players throughout a season — has been largely defeated because all scorers have not acted in unison, forming their opinions from some fixed, acknowledged standard. It is with a view Of not only instructing the novice in the gen eral principles of scoring, but of Offering for the acceptance of the expert this long-needed standard, by which alone can the records be made uniformly of their highest value, that this work has been undertaken.
