Not that it need be so, but so it usually is. With all our superiority, in this respect, to ma ny other tribes and nations of men, we have, in effect, our ranks or castes. We, too, have our nobles and peasants, our patricians and ple heians, our lords and tenants. And it is sel dom, after all, even in republican America, that we quit our rank, or dare to do so. The immense majority, I repeat it, have their des tiny determined for them; not merely at mar riege, or by marriage, but much earlier. But, if such are the facts, in relation to this subject, — and that such are the facts will not.
