The Beit El kabbalists, led by their charismatic founder Shalom Shar'abi, have flourished in the Middle East for the last two and a half centuries. The practice itself is a form of mystical prayer, utilizing a theory of names of God. This work is the first scholarly treatment of Beit El, its history, the underlying theory of it kabbalistic system, and the practices and inner life of the kabbalists of Beit El. The first study of Middle Eastern kabbalah in the modern period, Giller's work will be a guidepost for further study of this vast topic.
